Schell PTA Watch D.O.G.S.
Dads Of Great Students
WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students) is the safe school initiative of the National Center for Fathering that involves fathers and father figures to help create a more safe and secure learning environment in our nation's schools.
Who are WatchDOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day each year in a variety of school activities. Watch DOG Dads are given a daily responsibilities schedule which includes 45 minutes in a classroom in each grade level. Volunteers also perform a variety of tasks during their day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher's guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling. The D.O.G.S. highlight is eating lunch side by side with their child and friends.
The goal is for Schell Elementary students to be positively influenced by the committed involvement of fathers and father figures in the lives of their children and students. The requirements are to complete the mandatory background check, submit a registration form and order a Watch DOG t-shirt. The t-shirt is considered the official uniform of the Watch DOGS and is an identifier to everyone that a Watch DOG is on campus.
